Warranty Policy and Rim Crash Replacement

Lifetime Rim Warranty for Manufacturing Related Defects
  
All wheelsets purchased from Scalar Wheels come with rims covered by a lifetime manufacturing defect warranty. The warranty applies solely to the rims and covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and maintenance.  If a manufacturing related defect in the rim is found, please email us with with the details and we will take care of you.  Please note that this manufacturing related defect policy is separate from the rim crash replacement policy, which is outlined below. 
  
This limited lifetime warranty does not cover damage or defects caused by misuse, abuse, negligence, or accidents, or by modifications or repairs not authorized by Scalar Wheels. The warranty also does not cover normal wear and tear, such as cosmetic damage or scratches.
  
Examples of scenarios that will not be covered under this warranty:
  
  • You or your friend accidently back over your bike that was sitting in the driveway with a vehicle and crack the rim
  • You ship your wheels across the country for a race and the carrier damages them
  • You use a metal screwdriver as a tire lever and damage the carbon (please don't do this, regardless of the warranty policy)

One example scenario that would qualify for the manufacturing defect warranty is delaminating carbon.  We do not expect you will ever see this. 

Hubs, spokes, and nipples not manufactured by Scalar Wheels default to the warranty stated by their manufacturer.  Scalar Wheels selects top-of-the-line components and does not expect them to break under normal conditions.  Some components, such as hub bearings, are considered wear items and may require regular maintenance by an experienced bike mechanic.  If you have an issue with the spokes or nipples, Scalar Wheels can work with you to resolve the issue. 

Rim Crash Replacement for Road, All-Road, and Gravel Wheels:

  
Our premium carbon rims are made durable by aerospace-grade prepreg and the manufacturing techniques used to form them.  
  
Although we don't expect this to happen, if your carbon rim cracks or breaks for any reason while riding, please email sales@scalarwheels.com within 30 days of discovering the damage.  We may ask for photos of the damage and additional information such as how the damage occurred, prior to you sending the damaged wheel back.  The wheel should be cleaned thoroughly before being returned, but should remain in the "as-is" damaged condition so that we can inspect the wheel upon receipt.  Please do not cut the spokes or modify the wheel in any way.  The costs associated with fixing a broken wheel are:
 
  • Wheel rebuild (includes new rim, spokes, nipples, and labor):  $295
  • Cleaning fee (only charged if you send a dirty wheel back):  $50
The customer is responsible for all shipping costs, to and from Scalar Wheels in San Diego, associated with the rebuild.  Customers may contact Scalar Wheels to take advantage of discounted commercial shipping rates.  Scalar Wheels takes pride in our customer service and will work with you to make this warranty process as quick and as seamless as possible.

Standard Warranty on Accessories
  
All accessories manufactured and sold by Scalar Wheels, including but not limited to tubeless tape and valves, are covered by a standard warranty for 6 months from the date of purchase. The warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and maintenance.
Under this warranty, Scalar Wheels will repair or replace any defective accessories at no charge to the customer, provided that the customer contacts us within 30 days of discovering the defect. The customer is responsible for any shipping costs associated with the warranty claim.
This standard warranty does not cover damage or defects caused by misuse, abuse, negligence, or accidents, or by modifications or repairs not authorized by Scalar Wheels. The warranty also does not cover normal wear and tear, including, but not limited to, cosmetic damage, scratches, or dents.
