Care and Maintenance

Taking care of your wheels is essential for ensuring their longevity and performance, as well as your safety. Here are some recommendations for taking care of your wheels:

  • Keep them clean: Regularly clean your wheels with a soft cloth and mild soap. This will help to remove any dirt or debris that may accumulate on the rims, hubs, or spokes. Be careful not to use abrasive cleaners or scrubbers, as these can scratch the finish.
  • Check the spokes: Inspect the spokes for any signs of damage or loosening.
  • Check the hubs: Check for lateral play, radial play, and roughness when spinning, which could indicate that the bearings need to be replaced.
  • Store the bike and wheels properly: When not in use, store your bike and wheels in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • While our carbon rims are incredibly strong, they are not indestructible. When cleaning your wheels, or after a severe impact while riding, it is recommended to check the carbon rims for any signs of cracking, damage, or delamination. In the rare event that signs of damage are evident, please contact sales@scalarwheels.com and do not ride on the wheels until the damaged rim is further inspected and/or replaced.
  • Check for trueness: Periodically check the lateral and radial trueness of your wheels. Place the bike in a stand or flip it over so that the wheels are off the ground. Spin the wheels and look for wobbling or irregularities.

By following these recommendations, you can help to ensure that your wheels remain in good condition and provide you with thousands of miles of reliable performance.
